Community advocacy · Inspection case study

A First Nations homeowner on a local Mid-Island reserve contacted Fairytale after encountering difficulties arranging assistance for a problem beneath her home. She needed the conditions inspected and clearly documented so the issue could be addressed.
Clayton’s crawl-space inspection identified a broken sewer line and wastewater beneath the home. He documented the conditions and raised health and safety concerns requiring prompt attention.
Clayton prepared a formal letter to the community’s Chief and administration, setting out his findings, the health and safety concerns and the need for repair. This gave the homeowner written support when seeking action.
According to Clayton’s account, the homeowner was subsequently able to get the problem addressed and the sewer line fixed. This case shows the practical value of a thorough inspection and clear written findings when a homeowner needs help moving a repair forward.
Fairytale Landscaping & Drainage investigates and repairs perimeter drains around homes in Nanaimo and the mid-Island. Water beside the foundation, recurring blockages or moisture entering a crawl space warrant a closer look at the drainage system. The first task is to understand the affected area and available evidence before deciding whether a local repair or broader replacement is appropriate.
Owner-operator Clayton Millions brings industry experience dating to 2010. His work across Vancouver Island has included perimeter drain installation and maintenance, camera inspections, line locating, excavation and foundation damp-proofing. He has also held crew-chief and foreman roles, coordinating people, materials and site work. This background helps connect the condition of a drain with the practical requirements of reaching and repairing it.
A camera inspection may help reveal accessible pipe conditions, but its usefulness depends on access, visibility and the route of the system. Some questions require a targeted test dig or excavation. Clayton explains the proposed investigation and its charge before booking. Photographs, previous repair information and observations made during rainfall are useful starting points for that conversation.
Once the scope is established, work may include opening the affected area, replacing agreed pipe sections, making connections and reinstating drainage stone and backfill. The estimate identifies access, disposal and the surfaces included in restoration. Concrete, garden beds or deck edges may affect the sequence and cost. Hidden conditions are discussed if they change the agreed work.
