Due to the generally difficult terrain throughout Nanaimo, retaining walls are often a necessary part of landscaping.   Whether just for aesthetic purposes or a way to reclaim unusable land, we can help you figure out the best option for your property.  Allan block, although slightly more expensive than wood, is the most common choice for retaining walls.  Small boulders are a great option where a natural look is desired.  For smaller walls, 18” or less, one of the many varieties of small garden blocks can be used.

The cost for a wall depends on the ease of access, excavation/site preparation. Since most of the work goes into the initial base course, a 200 foot long wall, one block high, will cost quite a lot more than a 50 foot long wall at 4 feet tall.  Furthermore, a curved wall, or one that needs to be stepped down with tiers is going to add to the cost compared to a straight, flat wall.

You can expect the total installation cost to range from $60-$90 per square face foot of wall for allan block walls with over 100 square feet of boulders or allan block.
